Spaying and neutering provide numerous benefits, including improved health and behaviour.
Spaying and neutering are surgeries that prevent your pets from giving birth to multiple babies and contributing to overpopulation. To schedule an appointment to spay or neuter your pet contact us at 519-641-8383.
Spaying and neutering are two different surgical procedures performed on female and male pets. Neutering is the removal of the male reproductive organs, and spaying removes the uterus and ovaries. Both procedures are commonly referred to as having your pet “fixed.”
By removing the reproductive organs, we eliminate the heat cycle. This means that your pet will exhibit less aggressive behaviours. They will be less likely to stray, urinate on objects to mark territory or get into fights. Fixing your pet also minimizes the risk of your pet developing prostate, ovarian or breast cancers and uterine infections. Another added bonus to having your pet spayed or neutered is that other procedures can be performed simultaneously. We can perform microchipping or dental cleanings when your pet is being spayed or neutered.
Veterinarians recommend that pets be spayed or neutered before they turn 6-months-old. Before the heat cycle is generally ideal to prevent bad behaviours and unwanted pregnancies. If your pet is older, they may still be spayed or neutered as long as they are healthy enough for surgery.
